The journal RNA Biology presents a Special Issue devoted to Carl Woese, the famous American microbiologist and biophysicist, who has become known for defining the third kingdom of life – Archaea -, and originating the RNA world hypothesis (to name just two of his many accomplishments). The articles contained in this Special Issue have been authored by world-class investigators who had the opportunity to know and work with Carl Woese, or base their research on his revolutionary findings and theories.
